A Line for Rumi

Rumi’s poetic words echo across time and spear me. I am unable to look away from his hollow and am compelled to add one final line. ‍ ‍

I choose to love you in silence… For in silence I find no rejection,

I choose to love you in loneliness… For in loneliness no one owns you but me,

I choose to adore you from a distance… For distance will shield me from pain,

I choose to kiss you in the wind… For the wind is gentler than my lips,

I choose to hold you in my dreams… For in my dreams, you have no end.

- Rumi

I choose to expose to you my heart… For only in love’s revelation can there be hope of passion returned.

My words in bold type above seek the possibility of passion returned. I want this hope for Rumi.

I want him to drink this precious elixir and quench his thirst if only for a short while.

Oh that we should all experience the joy of shared passion.
